Call Outs in 2009

04/10/09 - 11:45hrs
Launched by Clyde Coastguard after them recieving a message on channel 16 from the skipper of a fishing vessel which has broken down and they are unable to start it. they are roughly 1 mile north of finnarts bay.

  • 1145hrs - Lifeboat under tow to cairnryan where boat will be launched from.
  • 1200hrs - Lifeboat along side casaulty vessel and proceeding a tow to stranraer marina.
  • 1345hrs - Lifeboat reached marina with casaulty vessel and vessel now in an alongside tow to safely bring into its berth in Stranraer marina.
  • 1410hrs - Lifeboat rehoused and ready for service
25/08/09 - 16:18hrs
Members of the public phoned 999 giving details of two kayakers capsized at Chapel Rosin, Ardwell.
  • 1622- crew assembled
  • 1625- lifboat on route to casaulty
  • 1644- lifeboat on scene at Ardwell.
  • 1650- The 2 persons have been recovered from the water by a passing boat.
  • 1650- Lifeboat arrives on scene and administer oxygen to 2 persons on the beach.
  • 1655- lifeboat launches to recover 1 canoe from the sea.
  • 1714- Lifeboat recovered and returning back to station after handing over persons to ambulance crew.
  • 1735- Lifeboat returned to station, rehoused and ready for service. 

17/08/09 - 19:03hrs
Stranraer Lifeboat was launched after a phone call was recieved at the station stating a small inflatable dingy had been seen floating a half mile off Wig Bay slip way.

  • 1917- Lifeboat in the water at wig bay starting search and dingy immediatly identitfied.
  • 1925- The person from the dingy was established to be safe and well on the shore.

06/08/09 - 16:47hrs
The Lifeboat was launched at the request of Dumfries & Galloway Constabulary after receiving reports of an upturned boat at Stranraer Harbour.

  • 1655- Lifeboat starts search of Harbour area.
  • 1700- Lifeboat crew find a silage plastic wrapper approximately 10ft by 4ft.  Believed to be the main culprate after further search proves negative
13/06/09 - 16:32hrs
The Lifeboat was launched on request of Liverpool Coast Guard to Drummore where a small dingy was drifting approximately a half mile off Drummore Harbour. It was reported that there were two persons on board.
  • 1635- Lifeboat under tow to drummore.
  • 1640- Drummore Coastguard have a visual on the casaulty vessel approximatly 1/2 mile from the Harbour.
  • 1650- Casaulty Confirmed to be Safe and well on the beach, No assistance Required by Stranraer lifeboat
  • 1651- Lifeboat stood down at "New England bay" Caravan Site
  • 1725- Lifeboat rehoused and ready for service.
22/05/09 - 13:31hrs
The Lifeboat was launched on request by Liverpool Coastguard to a capsized canoeist at Auchenmalg near Port William.
  • 1435- Crew Assembled at station and Proceeded By road to Casaulties Location.
  • 1445- Casualty rerighted himself and made his way back to Auchenmalg Shore.
  • 1450- Casaulty confirmed to be safe and well on the beach. No further assistance required by Stranraer Lifeboat.
  • 1451- Lifeboat stood down on arrival to "The Cock Inn" pub.
  • 1515- Lifeboat rehoused and ready for service.

22/05/09 - 10:44hrs
The Lifeboat was launched on request by Dumfries & Galloway Constabulary via Clyde Coastguard.  Advised to stand off Stranraer Marina as a female driver had made threats of a suicidal nature, apparently intending to driver her car off the pier.

  • 0152 - Lifeboat launched
  • 0154 - Lifeboat took position off Stranraer marina
  • 0230 - Female negotiated down by police.
  •  0232 - Lifeboat stands down and returns to station.


04/05/09 - 14:30hrs
Launched by Lifeboat Operations Manager as he had witnessed a small sailing dinghy off the Broadstone capsizing.
  • 1440 - Casualty vessel under tow and conveyed to Broadstone slipway.
  • 1500 - Casualty safely returned to Broadstone slipway where casualty was recovered
  • 1515 - Lifeboat returned to station.
  • 1525 - Lifeboat washed, rehoused and ready for service, closed down with Clyde Coastguard.

05/04/09 - 13:50hrs
Lifeboat launched after a member of the public stated that his Cruiser had suffered engine problems, 2 crew onboard, approximately a half mile from Wig Bay slipway.

  • 1412 - ILB alongside, tow attached to Cruised destined for Stranraer Marina.
  • 1440 - Arrive safely in Stranraer Harbour and established along side tow to safely manouvre Cruiser onto its mooring
  • 1145 - Cruiser safely moored in Stranraer Harbour.

21/03/09 - 14:02hrs

Lifeboat launched by Stranraer Launching Authority after a crewman noticed a Cabin Cruiser experiencing difficulties in Stranraer Harbour.

  • 1414 - Lifeboat alongside and secured a rope to the Cruiser to stop it drifting once free.  Shortly after a tow was established and the Cruise was easily removed from the sandbank.
  • 1600 - Return to station.

13/03/09 - 18:02hrs
Lifeboat launched at the request of Dumfries & Galloway Constabulary via Clyde Coastguard, as they had received reports of a male walking into the water and voicing intentions of suicide.  On the arrival of Lifeboat Launching Authority, the male had been assisted out of the water by the police and the lifeboat was requested to stand down.  Crew weren't mustered and stood down at 1812.

29/01/09 - 16:25hrs
Lifeboat launched at the request of Stranraer Coastguard via Clyde Coastguard.  The decision had been made to remove passengers from the Stena Line HSS.  The lifeboat was positioned off the HSS bow where Dumfries & Galloway Fire & Rescue Service were using a "turntable" appliance to remove passengers from the ferry. Extreme cold temperatures lead to hourly crew changes for the Lifeboat crews safety.  The passengers were safely removed from the ferry with the HGV being successfully craned off.  Crew returned to station at 22:45hrs.

28/01/09 - 22:34hrs
Lifeboat launched at the request of Clyde Coastguard to assist Stena Line HSS as an Heavy Goods Vehicle had crashed through the rear door of the ferry.  The Lifeboat met the ferry in the harbour where Coastguards and Police were in attendance.  The Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) took charge and the Lifeboat was stood down and placed on standby for a possible evacuation.

16/01/09 - 21:25hrs
The Lifeboat was launched by Clyde Coastguard as requested by Dumfries & Galloway Constabulary to assist them with a female threatening suicide on the West Pier.  The female had made threats of driving her vehicle off the pier.  The Lifeboat stood off the breakwater out of site.  The police negotiated with the female and removed her from the area.  The crew returned to the station at 22:05hrs.

10/01/09 - 14:05hrs

The Lifeboat was launched by Clyde Coastguard to reports of two canoeists having capsized in Loch Ryan near to Lady Bay.  Stranraer and Portpatrick Coastguard units were also in attendance. 

  • 1422 - Lifeboat arrives on scene at Lady Bay, the report was of one canoeist missing in the water for approximately 45 minutes.  A search was conducted with Royal Navy Sea Air Rescue (SAR) 177 scrambled.  Portpatrick All-weather Life Boat (ALB) was also requested to attend.
  • 1450 - Canoeist was found on shore.  He was treated in hospital for mild to severe Hypothermia.
  • 1455 - All parties accounted for and all crews stood down.
