2010 was a massive year for Stranraer Lifeboat with the introduction of Parkfest, Stranraers first and only music festival event. It was a roaring success and this year the plans are to make it bigger and better. The usual Lifeboat Fundraising Weekend is going to coincide with 2011's Parkfest and the plans are now well under way.
Can you help? If you want to get involved, all help is greatly welcome and appreciated. From donations for the raffle, to donations towards the running costs of the event (all Parkfest staff are volunteers and therefore all money donated is used towards necessary event expenses) or even your time!! If you have any ideas for the event please let us know.
Last year - North West Castle donated a nights stay for one of the bands travelling a long distance. The Glasgow Association of Galloway donated £500 towards the running costs. Local companies gave between £25 and £500. The Blonde Bombshells gave up their time on the day to collect donations in their buckets. The Lochryan Pipe Band opened the festivities for free! Southwest Audio provided the sound equipment and engineers free of charge. Donnan Construction let us borrow their floodlights to ensure the park was fully lit. Dumfries & Galloway Arts Association recognised that it was a charity event and allowed us use of their stage at a discounted rate. Mums, dads, wives, girlfriends, friends and anyone who was silly enough to stand still for a second too long were given jobs to do, faces to paint, banners to hang, marquees to put up, tables to collect and carry. Anyone with a spare room was asked to take in a band to help keep expenses as low as possible.
This is not an extensive list of those who helped us out, they know who they are and the crew of the Stranraer Lifeboat are extremely grateful to everyone that helped out. So as you can see...there is lots to do, lots to organise and every bit of help is appreciated. So...what can you do?
Here's to a successful Parkfest 2011! We look forward to seeing you there.
