Stranraer Lifeboat Station: History

 

 

CURRENT FACILITIES

The Lifeboat Station is located in Foreland Place, Stranraer next to Agnew Park. The Station currently houses our Land Rover Defender 110 TD5 (No:LR84) and the Ib1 Lifeboat D-697 "Stranraer Saviour".

Within the boathouse lower floor are the Mechanics Workshop, The Lifeboat and Land Rover and Crew Changing/Showering Facilities and storage areas.

The upper floor has a Training/Conference room, The LOM's Office and a fitness room along with toilet and storage facilities.

 

STATION HISTORY

1974 - An Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) station was established on 4 June with a D-     Class lifeboat, operational during summer months only and housed in a boat house on the beach at Agnew Park.

1994 -  A new Boathouse was completed providing housing for the D-Class lifeboat and Launching Vehicle, and crew facilities.

1996 -  The D-Class lifeboat was placed on all year round service.

1998 -  The new D-Class lifeboat, D-538 Tom Broom, was placed on service on the 19th October. This lifeboat was funded by the Stamford Branch Appeal.

2008 - The new Ib1 Lifeboat D-697 "Stranraer Saviour", was placed on Service on 15th November. This lifeboat was funded by The Lifeboat Fund.

2010 - The Honorary Secretary, Andrew Murray retired from his position at Stranraer Lifeboat Station after 33 years.
